Make sure you have Alexa and Spotify apps already installed on your iPhone or Android app. Also, you must have connected your phone and Alexa devices in the same WiFi network. For screenshots, we have used the iPhone app here to explain the steps.
Alexa Spotify Not Working
You are just required to say “Alexa, Spotify connect”, after which your Echo device will be discoverable in the Spotify app. You can select it and control music playback from your phone. Spotify has also announced that it will soon be bringing support to other Alexa powered devices like the Fire TV and mobile devices. On Android, you can try clearing the cache for the Spotify and Alexa app. To do so, go to your phone Settings Apps Spotify or Alexa. Tap on Storage followed by Clear cache. Deleting the cache. However, Spotify only allows one user per Amazonaccount to use voice commands to play music. Spotify also advises Bose andSonos users to keep their devices updated with the latest firmware.
How to Connect Spotify to Alexa
To connect Spotify to Alexa, tap the three-baricon from the Alexa app then go to Settings > Music & Podcasts.Tap on the plus sign beside Link New Service and select Spotify.Tap on Enable to Use on the Skill page, then log in with your Spotifycredentials. On the Permissions page, tap Agree.
- Open the Alexa app on your mobile device. You can download the Alexa app on the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.
- Then tap the three-bar icon in the top-left corner of the screen.
- Next, select Settings.
- Then tap Music & Podcasts. Scroll down to the Alexa Preferences section. Music & Podcasts will be the third option in this section.
- Tap the plus sign beside Link New Service. You will see this option under the Services panel.
- Then select Spotify.
- Next, tap Enable to Use.Note: If you are not logged in to your Spotify account already, you will be prompted to enter your username and password. You can also choose to continue with your Facebook or Apple account. Then tap Log In.
- Finally, scroll down and tap Agree.
Alexa App Support Unavailable Spotify Premium
After you add Spotify, youcan try using Alexa to play music from Spotify or return to the Skill page andfollow the steps below to make Spotify your default music player.
How To Make Spotify Your Default Music Player on Alexa
To make Spotify your default music player onAlexa, open the Alexa app and tap the three-line icon in the top-left corner.Then go to Settings > Music & Podcasts > Default Services. Finally,tap Change, and select Spotify.
Note: You have to connect Alexa to Spotify beforeyou can make it your default music player.
- Tap the three-line icon in the top-left corner of the Alexa app. If you are continuing from the previous steps, you can find this by clicking the Home button in the bottom-left corner.
- Then go to Settings >Music & Podcasts.
- Next, tap Default Services. You will see this at the top of your screen.
- Then tap Change. You can choose to make Spotify your default music service for either Music, Artist and Genre Stations, and Podcasts or for all of them. By default, all three are set to Amazon Music. Tap Change to switch your desired service to Spotify.
- Finally, select Spotify to make it your default music player. The Spotify logo should now appear next to the type of music service you just changed.

Download the Alexa app, open it, and link your Spotify account with these steps:
- Tap the menu in the top-left.
- Tap Settings, then Music & Podcasts.
- Select Spotify, then Link account to Alexa.
- Enter your Spotify account details.
Set Spotify as your default service for music and podcasts so you don’t need to specify “on Spotify” at the end of your voice commands to play music:
- Tap the menu in the top-left.
- Tap Settings, then Music & Podcasts.
- Tap Choose default music services.
Note: To set Spotify as your default podcast service, tap Choose default podcast service. - Select Spotify and tap DONE.
Note: You still need to say “on Spotify” at the end of commands to play podcasts.
Now just ask Alexa to play something! E.g. 'Alexa, play Discover Weekly'. Check out the Amazon help site for supported languages.
